06 Lehigh University V. La Salle, Patriots League Womens Soccer
SEP. 12, 2024

LOCATION: Ulrich Sports Complex
SCORE:    Lehigh 0-0 La Salle
It is normal for Patriot League sports teams to have a losing record at the start of the season, as they take on more challenging rivals to get in shape for league play. Surprisingly, however, this Lehigh team which has been a constant playoff contender for the last few years, started its 2024 campaign completely forgot how to defend on the field.

Coaches obviously felt the same, and the team focused on standing strong against Cornell in their last game. It was a scoreless draw at home, but also Lehigh's first clean sheet of the season. La Salle held better record against the Hawks, although the two teams last faced each other 10 years ago. Lehigh maintained strong defense throughout the game, handling all of La Salle's attacks.

However, as they devoted much of their energy to the backfield, they often simply cleared the ball and didn’t create many dangerous chances. Despite outshooting the Explorers 13 to 10, both teams had to settle for a draw. With Patriot League play approaching, it’s bittersweet for Lehigh to see its defense fixed at the cost of its offensive play.
