Julian t. Yang
Bethlehem, PA

During the pursuit of Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and International Relations at Lehigh University, Yang served as a sports beat reporter and photographer for The Brown and White, covering Mountain Hawks home games across multiple sports. Additionally, during his internship in the Lehigh Athletics multimedia office, Yang contributed to the coverage of Lehigh’s home games on ESPN+ as a camera operator.

Outside Lehigh campus, Yang’s deep passion for horse racing has led him to visit numerous racetracks across the United States and internationally. As an aspiring media professional, he developed a habit of documenting his experiences through photos at each track. This passion ultimately earned him an internship with The New York Racing Association, where he joined the crew to provide television coverage of the Saratoga summer racing series on Fox Sports.

Racing is a sport that ends on last day of December and starts again on January 1. On each corner of Earth, horses gallop along New Zealand's shoreline beaches and trot across the snow-covered Norway wildland. Rarely does a sport that requires no rules; horses simply run, aiming to be first to cross the line. There’s no goalposts or nets, no false starts or offsides. No matter which language one speaks, and which track one steps foot on, it's a magical sport that anyone can enjoy, knowing more or knowing less.

Yet the beauty of racing lies in that each track is one of its kind. With hundred years of history condensed in its garden-like walking ring and red, wooden grandstand, Saratoga never fails to exude the charm of elegant countryside. While on another side of earth, the one-year-new Funabashi, just few miles east of dazzling Tokyo city, built like a modern arena, adorned with lights, concrete, and shiny glass.

They tell the stories of where you are and what you are looking at - no other sports facilities demonstrate as much of history, culture and sense of beauty as racetracks. It’s the sport of kings, running in pieces of art.
